On the train from Boppard to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, literally, New Town on the Wine Road. Carolyn can't keep her eyes open. What the train engineer sees. Looking out from our hotel window over the town of Neustadt. We looked for a place to watch the US-Ghana game, but unfortunately it wasn't being televised. We ended up at this little restaurant called the Brau Haus. The Brau Haus was quite a nice little restaurant. They had a nice little dark beer. And the flags show that Football Fever was everywhere! After dinner we started walking towards the Neustadt city center. Along the way we walked past this beautiful building. It's the Carolyn was particularly impressed with this place. She really was impressed and wanted me to take a bunch of photos. I told you she was impressed! We finally made it into the pedestrian zone. This is the Elwedritsche Fountain. The characters are all fantasy types of beings. An interesting mural on a very non-German-style house. One of the narrow streets of Neustadt. The next morning the sun rose beautiful and bright. Looked like it would be a perfect day for our final soccer match, albeit a bit warm again. Our hotel is called the Panorama Hotel, and we definitely had a great panorama view of the hills to the west. To the west are the hills of a large nature preserve. Back behind me to the east is the very flat plain of the Rhine River, which is about 20 miles away. These past few photos are a collage of shots taken from our hotel room balcony. OK, I don't know why I took this photo of the intersection right near the hotel. Just another perspective of the landscape around Neustadt. This is our teensy tiny hotel room. There was barely room for our suitcases! But it was clean. This photo was taken the morning of our last soccer game. Before we went to the soccer game we went into Neustadt to look around again. It has a very nice old town area. This is the Stiftskirche (monastery church) at the market square in Neustadt. This side of the church is opposite the square. Detail of the church.
